The Wisconsin.Gov revitalization project produced a redesigned and re-architected Wisconsin State portal. As an output of that project,
Tyler Wisconsin produced two templates for Agency sites. In 2021, a new template option was developed and is now available to agencies. Any Wisconsin state agency can implement one of these templates at no cost as a part of the State of Wisconsin eGovernment Program.
Like Wisconsin.Gov, the templates feature a responsive design delivered using SharePoint 2016 as the web content management platform. They provide base functionality which allows agency content managers to build and manage page content containing text, images, and links.
The templates provide configuration options for agency customization allowing them to introduce their own branding. These options include:
- Background image
- Agency logo
- Fly-out navigation (three levels)
- Footer links
Advanced users may take advantage of Agency CSS allowing them even more customization options for their brand. Reach out to your Tyler Wisconsin Project Manager for more information on Agency CSS. (As a note this is recommended for agencies with web developers on staff as it requires knowledge of CSS and HTML).
Governance Note: Check with your Agency web content management team to determine your Agency's process for identifying and requesting changes to any of the configuration options.
In addition to the home page layout, each agency template includes three page layouts any of which can be selected for each page on the site. The page layouts include content areas which can be managed and maintained by content editors.
Accessibility (Section 508) Compliance
Tyler Wisconsin templates are scanned for 508 compliance, passing WCAG AA standards using several industry tools. Any errors are addressed and rescanned until compliance is met before being launched to production. This is to ensure that no accessibility issues were introduced between initialization and agency personalization (such as adding logos, social media icons, and background images.)
Additionally, all sites using the Tyler Wisconsin templates are scanned annually to continually comply with 508 and WCAG industry standards and updates. Any errors are addressed in order to maintain compliance for accessibility.
Scans are limited to the global header, navigation, global footer, and empty content container(s). State agency partners are responsible for content introduced after the template site has gone into production. This includes scanning or other verification of their content and any stylistic overrides they introduce to the template for 508 compliance.
